OUR STORY

It all started with a simple idea.

We took over Quercus in Royal Wootton Bassett because we believed the town deserved a proper bistro. Somewhere relaxed and genuinely welcoming, with seasonal cooking, a great glass of wine, and no unnecessary fuss.

The philosophy has always been simple. Buy the best ingredients we can find - most of them grown or reared within a few miles of the kitchen - and let them do the talking. Our menus change every month, planned around what's at its best rather than what's convenient.

French bistro cooking has always been the inspiration. Not fine dining, not gastropub - just well-executed, flavour-forward food in a setting where you can settle in and enjoy yourself.

When the opportunity came to open a second kitchen at The Peppermill in Devizes, it felt like a natural step. A beautiful building, a town with a real appetite for good food, and the same values we'd built Quercus on from the beginning.

Passionate about provenance

Our kitchens are run by people who care deeply about what lands on your plate. Every dish starts with the best ingredients we can source - most of them grown, reared, or produced within a few miles of our kitchens - and the skill lies in knowing when to let them speak for themselves.

We take our inspiration from the French bistro tradition. Not elaborate, not fussy - just well-executed, flavour-forward cooking that's designed to be enjoyed at a relaxed pace. Our menus change every month, planned around what's at its best rather than what's convenient.

Between our Royal Wootton Bassett and Devizes kitchens, we've built a team that shares the same values - honesty, craft, and a genuine passion for good food. We think that comes through in every plate we send out.

Where are your restaurants?
We have two locations - one on the High Street in Royal Wootton Bassett, and one in the heart of Devizes at The Peppermill Boutique Hotel on St John's Street.
How do I book a table?
You can book online via the booking links on our website, or call your preferred venue directly during opening hours. We also welcome walk-ins, subject to availability. Groups of up to 8 can book online - for larger parties, please give us a call.
What kind of food do you serve?
We take our inspiration from the French bistro tradition - seasonal, ingredient-led cooking that's designed to be enjoyed at a relaxed pace. Our menus change monthly, built around locally sourced produce from farms and suppliers close to our kitchens.
Do you cater for dietary requirements?
Our menus include options for a range of dietary needs. All dishes are prepared in a kitchen where allergens are present - please speak to a member of our team before ordering if you have any concerns.
Can I buy wine to take home?
Yes. We operate a bottle shop with a curated selection of wines available to take home. You'll also find our full wine list displayed on our bespoke wine wall - our team are happy to help you find something you'll love.
Do you hold wine tasting events?
We do. We host regular wine tasting evenings at both venues. Keep an eye on our social media at @QuercusBistro for upcoming dates.
Are dogs welcome?
Small, well-behaved dogs are welcome during daytime service at both venues. We're unable to accommodate dogs during evening dinner service.
Do you have parking?
The Royal Wootton Bassett venue has its own free customer car park just off the High Street on Station Road, including three 22kW EV charging points. For Devizes, there are several public car parks close to St John's Street.
Can you cater for large groups or private events?
Yes - for larger groups, please call your preferred venue and we'll do our best to accommodate you. Our Devizes venue also has access to private dining and function facilities at The Peppermill Hotel, including a private dining room for up to 12 guests and a function room for up to 70.
